John Oxlade (Accompanist)

John Oxlade began his musical life as a chorister at Southwark Cathedral, London and studied piano as a Junior Exhibitioner at The Guildhall School of Music. He graduated in Modern History at Cambridge and also studied piano and organ at the Royal College of Music.  He has diplomas in piano, harpsichord and organ. He teaches in Abingdon and Reading. He is Director of Music at Mansfield College, Oxford and of St Mary & John Church and accompanist to Abingdon & District Musical Society. He has worked with several opera groups in Oxford and further afield as a repetiteur including Rossini’s first and last operas La Cambiale di Matrimonio and William Tell, several of Mozart, Purcell, Gluck, Verdi, Tchaikovsky, Lehar, and nearly all of Gilbert & Sullivan’s. He has also directed several works by Purcell – Diolesian, King Arthur, Timon of Athens, Don Quixote and Dido & Aeneas. He has appeared in concert in Germany, Denmark, the USA and Australia.
